About Government Polytechnic Jamnagar

This institute was established in August 1983 by the Government of Gujarat under Directorate of Technical Education of Gujarat state to promote Technical Education. Initially two programmes were launched, namely Diploma in Civil Engineering and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with an intake capacity of 30 seats in each programme. Later on in 1989, Diploma programme in Electrical Engineering was launched.

In 1993, the L.R.U.C. building , residence quarters and principal bungalow were constructed and possession was taken by the institute. Boys hostel with 132 students capacity was constructed and handed over to the institute in December 1994. Subsequently from April 1995, it started functioning . Girl's hostel building with 48 students' capacity was constructed in 1998 and made to function from 26.01.2001.

In June 2007, Two new Diploma Programmes namely Electronics & Communication (EC) and Computer Engineering have been started.

In February, 2014 possession of new “Computer and E.C. building” has taken by institute. Also two new hostels (one each for boys and girls) have been started in this year.

Government Polytechnic, Jamnagar is located at Valsura Road, Jamnagar, 6 kms away from S.T. Bus stand, 2 kms away from Railway station and 15 kms away from Air Port. Jamangar is one of the fastest developing city of Gujarat. Big industries like Reliance Industries Ltd., Essar Industries Ltd. and nos. of Brass works factories are located at Jamnagar and its surrounding areas.
