Department of Civil Engineering

Name of Course Type Period Intake Started
Civil Engineering Diploma 3 Years 120 1983

The human civilization started from constructing our own house and other facilities such as roadways, retaining walls of castles etc. The civil Engineering branch exist from that era. The civil engineering is the  oldest and evergreen branch of engineering This branch is started in Government polytechnic at 1983 with intake of 30 seats. Due to the increasing demand of infrastructure and buildings in the country, the intake  is increased to 120 seats in 2008.

The Civil Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic Jamnagar is equipped with various laboratories that provide practical exposure and hands-on learning opportunities for students. The available laboratory facilities typically include:

  1. Surveying Laboratory – Equipped with instruments like total stations, theodolites, dumpy levels, and plane tables for land surveying practices.
  2. Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory – Includes soil testing equipment such as sieve analysis, permeability, compaction, and shear strength testing apparatus.
  3. Concrete Technology Laboratory – Contains concrete mixers, compression testing machines, slump test apparatus, and curing tanks for studying concrete properties.
  4. Structural Engineering Laboratory – Used for testing structural components, materials, and strength of materials through UTM (Universal Testing Machine) and other testing equipment.
  5. Environmental Engineering Laboratory – Used for water and wastewater quality analysis, including pH meters, turbidity meters, BOD and COD testing equipment.
  6. Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics Laboratory – Equipped with flow measuring devices, orifice meters, Venturi meters, and hydraulic models for fluid flow experiments.
  7. Building Materials Laboratory – Provides testing facilities for bricks, aggregates, cement, and other construction materials to determine their quality and strength.
