Android App Development using MIT App Inventor

A highly engaging Webinar on Android App Development using MIT App Inventor was organized on 8th February 2024 by the SSIP Cell of Government Polytechnic, Jamnagar. Conducted in hybrid mode, the session was attended by 382 students across departments, both online via Google Meet and offline in the Main Auditorium (New Building).

The session began with a warm welcome and context setting by Shri A. M. Bhatt, Event Coordinator, who emphasized the importance of app development skills for students in the modern tech ecosystem. He encouraged students to explore such opportunities to turn their ideas into digital solutions.

Shri R. K. Borsaniya, SSIP Coordinator and Event Convener, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of SSIP 2.0 in fostering student-led innovation. He encouraged students to use platforms like MIT App Inventor to quickly prototype their ideas and submit them for support through the institutional SSIP cell.

The core session was delivered by Shri Chintan Umraliya, a well-experienced faculty member from BPTI Bhavnagar. He presented a hands-on demonstration of approximately 8 different Android applications, showcasing a wide range of functionalities from simple tools to interactive utilities. Each app was built live using MIT App Inventor’s block-based programming interface, making it easy for beginners to understand.

To enhance student engagement, the speaker shared QR codes for each app, allowing students to directly download and test the applications on their smartphones during the session. This interactive experience significantly increased student participation and allowed them to experience the output of their learning in real-time.

Students responded enthusiastically, asking questions, scanning QR codes, and testing features of the demo apps, making the session both educational and interactive. Later the event was concluded by closing remarks by Shri. A. M. Bhatt sir with words of thanks for the invited speaker Shri. Chintan Umraliya sir.
