General Department is supporting department for all branches and concern with fundamental subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and CPD. 

At Government Polytechnic, Jamnagar these fundamental subjects are taught by highly experienced, qualified & dynamic faculties. Department has three faculties with doctoral degree, one with M. Phil and rest all with master’s degree.

Teaching-Learning process

       Basic subjects of Science & Humanities department are taught using different teaching learning process. The process involves innovative methods like using education software, mobile apps etc. Power point presentations is used while delivering lecture in classroom for better understanding of subject to students. You tube Video lecture for mathematics is uploaded for self-learning. Counselling of weak students is done on regular basis by identifying them with class test and mid semester examination results.

       Class tests after completion of each chapter are arranged for all Science & Humanities department subjects. Tutorials and assignments are given to students and assessed check their performance. Teaching notes are provided online and offline to students. Motivate students to create interest in department subjects.

         Department blog is created to ensure better connectivity 24 x 7 hrs. with students and to deliver time bound materials and day to day Science & Humanities instructions by department and university. Students are encouraged for library visit and refer different reference books of basic science subjects mentioned as per GTU syllabus.  

        Mathematics and science projects are done by students with guidance of faculties to analyze students innovative ideas.

        General department faculty members have actively participated in celebration of different days like Gandhi Jayanti, Constitution Day celebration, swachchhata mission, tree plantation, self- defense for girls for etc.
