One-Day Workshop on 3D Printing

On September 19, 2024, the Mechanical Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic, Jamnagar, hosted a one-day workshop on 3D Printing for 78 final-year diploma students. Held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Centre of Excellence (COE) RPT Laboratory, the event was organized in association with the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). Faculty members V. R. Maniar, Dr. S. K. Teraiya, and D. B. Harsora led the session, with S. P. Kotak, M. M. Boda, D. D. Vadalia, and S. Z. Pathan as coordinators. The workshop aimed to provide hands-on experience and theoretical insights into additive manufacturing, emphasizing its industrial applications.

The session was divided into two parts. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, speakers introduced 3D printing fundamentals, covering its evolution, advantages, and applications in fields like automotive, aerospace, and healthcare. They explained processes such as Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), along with material and software considerations. From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, a practical demonstration showcased a 3D printer creating a mechanical component. Students observed the setup, and some interacted with design software like AutoCAD and SolidWorks. The session also addressed troubleshooting common 3D printing issues. The interactive format fostered enthusiasm, with students expressing interest in further exploring this technology. The workshop successfully bridged theoretical concepts with practical applications, equipping students with skills relevant to modern manufacturing and enhancing their readiness for academic projects and careers in mechanical engineering.
